Methods of Actor Duping
Fishing Rod duping
By canceling the action of pulling out the Fishing Rod with an action such as climbing onto Epona or a boar or climbing onto vines or ladders, the Fishing Rod actor will be duplicated and get stuck in Link's hand until you load another area. Continuing to do this will use up space in memory.
To tell whether a dupe was successful or not, listen for the sound of Link taking the rod out and watch what the rod looks like. For the first dupe, if Link has the rod out while on Epona, then the dupe was successful; for further dupes, the fishing lines and bobbers will appear to be separate if the dupe was successful but will appear to coalesce into one line and bobber (sometimes two bobbers) if the dupe was unsuccessful. The sound of Link pulling out the rod will play if the A press was on time or late but will not play if the A press was early.
Uses
Epona OoB in South Faron
Discovered by Dragonbane0
Continuously duping Fishing Rods until available memory is low will cause the loading transition in South Faron to fail, allowing you to ride Epona out of bounds. Using this, you can enter North Faron with Epona and enter Forest Temple or Sacred Grove early. The most consistent method of achieving this is duping 17-18 rods in the tunnel, loading the Coro area map chunk, pulling out the Fishing Rod one more time, then getting onto Epona and riding to the unloaded Spring area.
City Gate Unload
Duping Fishing Rods on the vines until memory is critically low will cause the gate normally blocking the way to Aeralfos to fail to load, allowing you to skip 3 rooms. Duping around 23-24 Fishing Rods then throwing the Boomerang before entering the door is enough to unload the gate. This is slightly faster than going through the rooms normally but not generally considered worthwhile in RTA runs.
