Twilight Princess
Practice Tools
Tools
Here you can find various helpful tools for speedrun practice and testing
(Note: Many of these tools require your wii to be already homebrewed and have homebrew channel installed)
GCMM 1.4f, a Gamecube Savefile Manager homebrew application for Wii/GC (Mod by: Dragonbane)
Neogamma TP mod, a loader for Wii homebrew that includes built in togglable cheats for TP (Mod by: Dragonbane)
Dolphin Zelda Edition, a modified version of Dolphin that includes extra tools for TP/TWW (Mod by: Dragonbane)
Twilight Editor, a Savefile editor for GC TP saves that allows you to modify values and flags (By: AECX)
tpgz, a practice tool that includes many helpful tools such as memory watch, inventory management, cheats, and map loading (By: Mid/Pheenoh/Taka/Kipcode)
Setting up tpgz
You will need a digital copy (ISO) of the game. You can obtain this by using a Homebrew application like CleanRip to dump your physical copy of the game into an ISO.
Setting up SD card (GCN version of TP) on a Wii
- Download Nintendont files
- Extract the 'nintendont' folder to the apps folder of your SD Card (SD:\apps\nintendont)
- Create a folder called 'games' on the root of your SD Card (SD:\games)
- Inside 'games', create a new folder and name it anything ('TPGZ' and 'GZ2E01' are popular choices)
- Open tpgz.io on your PC
- Select the desired patch version, and click 'Patch'
- Wait for the patcher to finish (may take a few minutes)
- It shouldn't take very long to patch. If you have issues, try geckopatcher using the latest patch for your game version from here
- Place the patched ISO into the second game folder (inside of the 'games' folder) on the SD card, and name the file 'game.iso' (remember to add '.iso' at the end)
- Example: SD:\games\TPGZ\game.iso
- Insert the SD card into the Wii
Loading tpgz (GCN version of TP) on a Wii
- Launch Nintendont from the Homebrew Channel
- Choose the file location of your tpgz ISO
- Open Settings, and make sure to turn 'Native Control' on
- Launch game
- To open the menu, press L, R, and D-Pad down
Setting up SD card (Wii version of TP) on a Wii
Since the Wii version is over 4GB, CleanRip may output the ISO into segments that you must combine. If you're on Windows, one way is to open cmd and then type copy /b <part0> + <part1> + ... <output>. For example, if you have two segments, the command would be: copy /b RZDE01.part0.iso + RZDE01.part1.iso output.iso
- Follow these instructions to install Wiiflow Lite
- Extract wiiflow folder to the apps folder of your SD Card (SD:\apps\wiiflow)
- Create a folder called 'wbfs' on the root of your SD Card (SD:\wbfs)
- Download the romhack patcher
- Place your Wii ISO, the romhack patcher program, and patch file in a folder together
- Note: Currently, the latest version (1.1) of Wii TPGZ doesn't work on console. Use 1.0 or earlier, or this custom patch which has updated Any% saves
- Open command line in that folder, and run [romhack.exe apply patchname.patch 'isoname.iso' 'outputname.iso']
- Example:
romhack.exe apply 0.2-wii-ntscu-10.patch rzde10.iso tpgzw.iso - See this page for additional information related to patching
- Example:
- Wait for the patch process to finish (may take a few minutes)
- Convert the patched ISO file to WBFS using Wii Backup Manager to get around the 4GB restriction
- Place the WBFS file into the wbfs folder on your SD card, and name the file 'RZDE01.wbfs' (SD:\wbfs\RZDE01.wbfs)
- Insert your SD card into the Wii
Loading tpgz (Wii version of TP) on a Wii
- Launch Wiiflow WFL from the Homebrew Channel
- tpgz should be an option as a game (it will just look like regular TP). Press A to select it, then select "Play"
- Alternatively, click the home icon in Wiiflow, navigate to File Explorer, then choose the file location of the tpgz WBFS
- Launch game
- To open the menu, press Z, C, and minus (-)
Using tpgz
General use tutorial
tpgz has been updated since this tutorial was made, and some features shown in this tutorial have been moved to different menus. There are also newer features not shown, such as collision viewer and trigger viewer.
###### Tutorial for creating practice saves This information is not needed for general tpgz use. It is useful for creating new practice saves for new editions of tpgz, and it can also be used to create custom practice saves to load on disc.Setting up GCMM on a Wii
