Twilight Princess HD
Input Storage
Description
Discovered by TreZc0_
Exclusively in Twilight Princess HD it is possible to store inputs during a cutscene or text box.
This can be used to get first frame Midna Jumps, 1 frame text skips and even big tricks like Gorge Void consistently and therefore saves a big amount of time consistently.
How to
- Wait for the cutscene to start / mash through a textbox until it is about to end.
- Hold the buttons needed for the trick you wanna perform (L+A or Backflip / sidehop buttons)
Note:
This includes stuff like first frame dashes/rolls after cutscenes (for example after Goats cutscene), Midna jumps like in Castle Sewers or Faron and text skips like the one on Castle rooftops or the one after the Meteor warp to Zora's Domain.
More Specifics

- All (?) buffered actions other than rolls and dashes go through on the first frame of control after the buffer (obviously I didn't test every single action in the game, but I think those are the only two exceptions)
- The delay on a buffered roll or dash is 3f
- It is never possible to roll or dash within 3f of gaining control of Link, including by mashing A instead of buffering
- One minor convenience is that it's usually optimal to start rolling 3f after entering an area already running as human
- 3f is the extra input delay felt on unbuffered rolls and dashes as well
- If there is a prompt on the A button other than Roll/Dash (e.g. Put away, Place), pressing A will perform that action without any delay and cannot be interpreted as a roll or dash after the fact
- If there is no prompt or a Roll/Dash prompt on the A button, then pressing A will perform whatever action the A button prompts 3f after the input; for example, pressing A while the stick is neutral (no prompt) and then holding a direction 3f afterwards will cause a roll in that direction, and pressing A while running (Roll prompt) and then targeting a nearby NPC 3f afterwards will cause Link to speak to the NPC
- Any non-A input within the 3f between an A press with no prompt or a Roll/Dash prompt and the action actually taking place will perform that button's action with no delay as usual. This means e.g. dash canceling requires pressing B at least 4f after pressing A.
