Skyward Sword
Camera Lock
Description
Camera Lock is a glitch related to the camera that causes it to want to snap looking towards a specific direction. There are several ways to trigger it. This glitch has no known uses at this time, but it has potential for some interesting interactions with Cutscene Delay.
Camera Lock with Doors
Discovered by indykenobi
Whenever Link is about to enter a door, the camera swings around so that Link and the door are centered on the screen. In some places, it is possible to get the camera stuck at this angle.
Walk up to a door so that the camera changes its position, then use C to enter first person mode. Stand on the right side of the door and hold up and right while looking to the left, so that the camera view starts to jitter. Once the camera is jittering, exit first person mode and immediately run backwards out of the door zone. If done correctly, the camera will remain at the same angle, and will not rotate around Link as he moves.
The camera will become stuck in place with the following exceptions:
- Entering a zone that modifies the camera will modify the camera as usual, breaking the lock.
- Entering water will break the lock. No superswimming here.
- Z-Targeting will rotate the camera behind Link as usual. However, when you release Z, the camera will return to its locked angle.
Camera Lock with Pick-Up Items
Discovered by peppernicus
For this method, place an item near a wall (a bomb for example), go in front of the wall and then use C to enter first person mode. Walk forward until the camera starts to jitter then exit C-up and turn around towards the item. This can give camera lock.
Temporary Camera Lock
Discovered by Blizzard Blanc
A temporary form of Camera Lock can also be obtained in a few different ways. To do so, go near a spot where there is a camera change. Enter C-up then hold a direction to cause the camera change and leave c-up. As long as you do not change your control stick direction, you will have the camera locked in the direction of the c-up. Link will be locked walking in the same direction. C-up doesn't cancel this temporary camera lock, as well as voiding-out, talking to NPCs or mounting the loftwing in the sky.
Camera changes this is known to work on are the camera from standing in front of doors, and the camera from transitionning from swimming to walking. For example, on Skyloft, you can get it at the beach between Wryna's House and the platforms leading to the waterfall cave.
Other beaches on Skyloft are generally within a CamTag region that make them not work.
